Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said that voting against President Yoweri Museveni is voting for slavery.

In a statement on X, Muhoozi who is also Uganda’s first son said that voting against his father would amount to voting for colonialists.

He added that this will also be a vote against the freedom of Ugandans.

“In 2026, any vote that is not for President Museveni is a vote for the colonialists! It is a vote against Freedom and for Slavery,” Muhoozi said.

The Ugandan first son had set his eyes on the country’s presidency before he stepped down a few days ago.

This followed his father’s decision to seek the presidency for another term next year.

According to the NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo, the ruling party’s central executive committee had in 2020 passed a resolution declaring Museveni the sole presidential flagbearer for the party for 2021 and beyond.

This will be the 80-year-old’s seventh term as president of Uganda, should he get elected.

Museveni made the announcement during one of his 80th birthday celebrations held in Uganda.

The Ugandan leader, his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, celebrated his birthday in Nakaseke district, central Uganda.

Nakaseke acted as the epicentre of the war that catapulted him to power 38 years ago.
