Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen has announced Monday, March 31, 2025, as a public holiday.
In a Gazette Notice dated Friday, March 28, the CS stated that the holiday will be observed to commemorate Idd-ul-Fitr.
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, the 31st March, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ulFitr,” the notice stated.
Idd-ul-Fitr is the first of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam.
Idd-ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. It is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwāl, the 10th month of the Islamic.
Idd al-Fitr is a time of official receptions and private visits, when friends greet one another, presents are given, new clothes are worn, and the graves of relatives are visited
