President William Ruto has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Tanzania’s President-elect Samia Suluhu Hassan following her re-election in the country’s October 29, 2025, general election, even as the outcome continues to stir political debate across the region.
In an official statement issued on November 3, 2025, from State House Nairobi, President Ruto commended Suluhu on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to continued partnership with Tanzania in advancing regional unity, trade, and development within the East African Community (EAC).
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend sincere congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election held on 29 October 2025,” President Ruto said.

The President underscored the deep historical ties and shared aspirations between Kenya and Tanzania, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
“Kenya and Tanzania share deep historical ties and common aspirations for the prosperity and stability of our peoples, anchored in our shared history and our joint membership in the East African Community,” he added.
Ruto further appealed to Tanzanians to remain calm and uphold democratic principles as the country moves forward after the polls, which have drawn criticism from sections of the opposition and international observers.
“I call upon the patriotic people of Tanzania to uphold peace and the rule of law, and I encourage all political actors and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and tolerance as they seek to resolve any issues at hand in order to safeguard democracy and stability,” he urged.

He concluded by reaffirming Kenya’s readiness to continue working closely with Tanzania in pursuit of a “peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East Africa.”
Background on Tanzania’s Disputed General Election
The 2025 Tanzanian general election has been marred by allegations of irregularities and voter suppression, particularly from opposition groups who claim the process was neither free nor fair.
President-elect Samia Suluhu Hassan, who first assumed office in 2021 following the death of former President John Pombe Magufuli, reportedly secured 98 percent of the vote, a result that has raised eyebrows both domestically and internationally.
Opposition leaders, including ACT-Wazalendo’s Luhaga Mpina and CHADEMA’s Tundu Lissu, have alleged widespread intimidation of voters, restrictions on campaign activities, and lack of transparency in vote counting.
International observers have called for dialogue and electoral reforms, urging Tanzanian authorities to foster a more open and competitive political environment.
Despite the controversy, Samia’s victory cements her as Tanzania’s first female president to win a full electoral mandate, and her leadership is expected to continue shaping the country’s political and economic trajectory in the coming years.
