Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted claims that he sponsored goons during the Gen Z led protests in Nairobi.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Jambo, Sakaja said that he is a man who does clean politics.
“Ni uongo. Hio ya goons si hata kitu ya kudiscuss mimi ni mtu wa siasa safi,” he said.
(It a lie, it’s not even something to discuss and I am someone who does clean politics).
The Nairobi Governor said that it the county government that supplied protesters with water during the first two demos.
He said that Ambulances belonging to the county were also on standby to attend to any injuries
“Maadamano ya kwanza na ya pili sisi ndio tulipeana maji an ambulance zetu zilikuwa standby. Niliwaambia watu wanajiiexpress,” he added.
Sakaja said he is aware the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested some people and one has confessed to have been sent by someone to disrupt the demos.
Nairobi was the most affected with the country wide demos.
Businesses running into billions were affected alongside properties, some which were broken into and goods, while others were burnt to ashes.
Police later revealed that the goons had been sent by a section of leaders to counter the youthful protests.
