An investigative review of CCTV footage has shed new light on the final moments of the late Cyrus Jirongo, whose death in a crash along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway has continued to raise troubling questions.
The analysed footage captures a detailed sequence of events from the Eagols Petrol Station, located along the busy highway, on the night of the fatal accident.
In the quiet early hours of the morning, the stillness is broken only by the occasional passing vehicle. At exactly 2:18 a.m., CCTV cameras record a white Mercedes-Benz entering the petrol station from the Nairobi direction. The vehicle was later confirmed to have been driven by Cyrus Jirongo.
Notably, the car enters the station without indicating. It proceeds past the fuel pumps but does not stop to refuel. After spending just 34 seconds within the station, the Mercedes makes a swift U-turn and exits the premises, merging back onto the highway toward Nairobi at 2:19:17 a.m.

Moments later, events take a deadly turn.
At 2:19:25 a.m., another vehicle—now identified as the bus involved in the fatal collision—is seen approaching from the Nairobi side. The footage shows the bus traveling at what appears to be a dangerously high speed, with its headlights on full beam.
The collision is captured on camera. The bus crashes into the Mercedes, dragging it for an estimated 25 metres along the tarmac.
The impact causes the luxury vehicle to spin violently before coming to rest on the roadside. The final position places the car on the left-hand side of the road when heading toward Nakuru, or the right-hand side when facing Nairobi.
At 2:20 a.m., just one minute after the crash, another vehicle traveling toward Nairobi passes the scene. Its headlights briefly illuminate the wreckage, revealing smoke rising from where Jirongo’s car had come to a stop.
As investigations continue, detectives are now working to reconstruct the final moments leading up to the crash. Key questions remain unanswered: What was Cyrus Jirongo’s state of mind and physical condition at the time? Was he alone in the vehicle?
Investigators believe the petrol station footage may prove crucial in piecing together the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
