Citizen TV news anchor and celebrated media personality Yvonne Okwara is celebrating 19 years in the media space.

Okwara went down memory lane, reflecting on her growth in the media industry.

“19 Years in Media. 7 Years at Citizen TV. A journey of growth, grit, grace—and gratitude.

“This May marks a significant milestone in my life and career. It’s been 19 years since I first stepped into a newsroom, full of curiosity and questions. Incidentally, that journey started at Royalmedia Services, to which I returned, and now mark 7 years since I joined Citizen TV, a place that has stretched and refined me in ways I never imagined,” Yvonne Okwara said.

Okwara reflected on her days at QFM saying she is happy about her transition from being a content producer to a prime-time news anchor.

“From my early days at QFM producing content behind the scenes, to directing political talk shows and eventually anchoring prime-time news, each chapter has taught me something different—about the power of storytelling, the importance of integrity, and the impact of voice and authenticity,” Okwara added.

The celebrated news anchor further stated that her stay at Citizen TV has allowed her to lead, grow, and even question power.

She says shows like “The Explainer and News Gang” have created a deeper understanding of issues for her viewers.

“At Citizen TV, I’ve been privileged to lead and grow, to question power, and to create space for deeper understanding through shows like The Explainer and News Gang. From covering politics, the political economy, and health, and leading the station’s business coverage. This platform has also allowed me to expand beyond the screen—to boardrooms, lecture halls, and global stages, advocating for media literacy, inclusive policy, and social justice,” she explained.

Okwara also highlighted her recent achievements one of them being graduating with my Executive Master from Aga Khan University.

“In the last year alone, graduating with my Executive Masters from Aga Khan University, getting GRI certified as a Sustainability professional, and joining boards such as ICRW, have reaffirmed my belief that leadership is service—and that there’s always room to learn, evolve, and contribute more meaningfully,” she said.

To her fans Okwara said; “To every producer, editor, mentor, colleague, viewer, and critic—you’ve all played a part. Thank you!

To the next generation of storytellers: stay curious. Stay grounded. And never be afraid to ask why. Here’s to the road behind, the lessons along the way, and the journey still ahead,”.
