Why Nairobi Polo Matches Have Been Cancelled Last Minute

The Nairobi Polo Club has announced the cancellation of the polo matches scheduled for Sunday, January 26th, 2025.

The finals for the Soldier’s Salute Cup were set to take place today at the Nairobi Polo Club, but the heavy rainfall on the evening of 25th January resulted in the cancellation of the matches.

The statement highlights that the field conditions are not safe for both the Horses and the players.

“Dear Members, Guests, and Polo Enthusiasts. We regret to inform you that due to the heavy rainfall experienced on the evening of 25th January, the polo matches scheduled for today, 26th January, have been cancelled.

“After carefully assessing the field conditions, it has been determined that the playing surface is not safe for the horses or players,” the statement said in part.

The Nairobi Polo organizers further stated that the welfare of the Horses and players’ safety had to be given priority.  

“Ensuring the welfare of our horses and the safety of all players remains our highest priority,” they said.

At the same, Polo Enthusiasts were still asked to show up at the Nairobi Polo Club for the after-party.

“While the matches will not proceed as planned, we warmly invite everyone to still join us at the club. The day promises to be full of lively music, delicious food, and vibrant festivities for all to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate the spirit of polo, and make the most of what the club has to offer,” organizers said.

“We deeply appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize safety in these unforeseen circumstances. We look forward to welcoming you to the club today and hope to see you at future matches once the weather allows,”
