Kenyan songstress Sophia Wanjuku aka Sofiya Nzau is set to perform at the upcoming CANEX WKND festival going down in Algiers, Algeria.
Sofiya popular for her hit-song Mwaki will be sharing the stage with other international stars.
She is the only Kenyan act lined up to perform at the Festival that will be running from October 16-19, 2024.
Sofiya Nzau is scheduled to perform at the opening ceremony on October 16, making her the highlight of the four-day event themed ‘One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World’.
The opening ceremony promises to be an exciting and dynamic spectacle with performances at L’Opéra d’Alger.
The event will feature a diverse array of music, visual arts, performing arts, and fashion, showcasing the richness of African culture.
Sofiya will perform alongside the Ofentse Pitse Orchestra, led by the esteemed South African conductor Ofentse Pitse.
This orchestra will uniquely blend classical and African instruments, creating a vibrant African orchestral ensemble.
CANEX WKND 2024 will gather delegates from across Africa, representing a variety of creative sectors.
The event will include live performances, speeches from industry leaders and experts, masterclass sessions, an awe-inspiring fashion show, a high-energy music concert, and exciting gastronomical showcases.
A vibrant market and exhibition will also be part of the event, creating a platform for showcasing Africa’s rich and diverse creative talent.
The opening ceremony will also feature spoken word by Malawian poet Qabaniso Malewezi, who will be complemented on stage by live speed painting projections.
Her participation in CANEX WKND 2024 is a significant achievement, not only for her but also for Kenya’s music industry.

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) (www.Afreximbank.com), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, proudly announced the return of the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) 2024.
This groundbreaking event is scheduled to take place from October 16-19, 2024, at SAFEX in Algiers, Algeria.
CANEX WKND 2024 seeks to build on the success of previous events, most recently CANEX at IATF2023 which was held in Cairo.
Last year’s edition brought together delegates from across the continent representing a wide range of creative sectors.
The event featured over 21 live performances, 115 industry-leading speakers and experts, 13 masterclass sessions, and an awe-inspiring fashion show. Attendees also enjoyed a high-energy music concert, exciting gastronomical showcases, and a vibrant marketplace and exhibition center.
