Over the weekend, family, culture, and a dash of flair collided in spectacular fashion as Simon Kabu, Chairman and CEO of Bonfire Adventures, was treated to a luxurious surprise by his daughter, Maurine Kabu.

The young executive, who doubles as the Managing Director of Adequate Safaris, pulled off an unforgettable gesture—flying her father to the Ngemi Festival via helicopter.

The two-day Ngemi Festival, now in its fourth edition, unfolded in Naivasha on May 31 and June 1, drawing in lovers of Kikuyu heritage from across the country.

Maurine’s high-flying surprise wasn’t just a nod to her father’s love for adventure, but also a bold display of generational pride and family unity.

Upon landing, Kabu—known for his vibrant personality and love for travel—did not disappoint.

Dressed to theme in traditional Kikuyu colors, he was seen fully immersing himself in the celebration. From dancing to soulful Gikuyu rhythms to indulging in rich cultural delicacies, he was the life of the party.

The festival itself has evolved into a must-attend cultural extravaganza. Spearheaded by founders Chira and Njoki, Ngemi has grown from humble beginnings into a national celebration of Kikuyu identity.

With Day 1 held at The Garden on Moi South Lake Road and Day 2 at Captain James Camp, the event featured an exciting lineup of music, art, oral storytelling, and traditional cuisine.

The dress code—white, brown, and blue—paid homage to Kikuyu heritage, and the turnout was nothing short of stunning.

Attendees, especially the urban Kikuyu youth, embraced the festival’s mission to blend modernity with tradition.

Maurine Kabu, often behind the scenes of luxury travel planning, was spotted confidently representing her brand while also showing a more personal side of herself—as a proud daughter.

Her gesture was more than a VIP experience; it was a statement about family bonds, culture, and the power of meaningful experiences.

As the Ngemi Festival continues to grow, it’s clear that it’s more than an event—it’s a movement. And with personalities like the Kabus in attendance, it’s safe to say that cultural pride is alive, well, and now arriving in style.
