Giant Telecommunication Safaricom has increased Internet speed for their home and business customers to accommodate the increasing demands of individual and corporate users.
In a statement released on Monday, September 23, 2024, Safaricom stated that existing customers will automatically transition to the new and improved packages.
This new move will allow their customers to enjoy the increased internet speed.
The new speeds for the Bronze package are now 15Mbps, while the Silver package now has a speed of up to 30Mbps.
“We have enhanced our Home Internet speeds to cater to the increased demand and usage by offering reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers. The introduction of the new speeds offers the capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease, including high-definition streaming 4K/8K, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality. We have also introduced Family Share which offers a converged internet and mobile solution for home that can be shared with up to five loved ones.
We are keen to deliver a great experience and value by innovating to meet and exceed customer needs,” Peter Ndegwa, CEO, of Safaricom PLC.
Safaricom intends to hold estate clinics, enhance capacity in congested locations, and provide 4G and 5G options for houses without fiber coverage.
Businesses will also benefit from dedicated internet services, which range from a 15 Mbps shared option for small businesses to a 100 Mbps shared plan for larger corporations.
Medium and large enterprises will benefit from competitive Dedicated Internet options of up to 1Gbps, providing them with the flexibility, stability, and uptime they require.
These plans offer features like 24/7 proactive monitoring, network visibility, burstability, backup choices (by fibre, 5G, or wireless connectivity), static IP support, embedded security, and an outstanding 99.99% uptime.
“The needs of our Enterprise customers are changing each day with the growing need to use technology. The enhanced fibre for business plans will allow our enterprise customers have a worry-free experience with the provision of back up data,” Ndegwa said.
The new business fiber plans begin with a 15Mbps shared option, which is appropriate for micro-businesses with up to five users or connected devices.
This package offers 5GB of mobile backup data to support uninterrupted operations during outages, as well as 400 minutes of phone service for clear communication.
Safaricom now offers a 50mbps shared package that may handle up to 15 people for small businesses wishing to expand. It includes with 15GB of mobile backup data to ensure service continuity during fiber outages or scheduled maintenance.
The subscription also includes a Closed User Group (CUG) voice plan, which allows for unlimited voice communication between up to three people.
These adjustments are in direct response to Starlink’s arrival into the Kenyan market in June 2023. By June 2024, Starlink had over 4,000 registered clients.
Starlink has speeds of up to 200 Mbps and costs ShS 6,500 ($50). It also announced a 50 GB package for Sh 1,300 and a rental option for clients who can’t afford to buy the Starlink gear, which costs Sh 45,000.
