2024 MTV EMAs: All the 15 Records That Were Broken!

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards  (MTV EMAs) went down on November 10, 2024, and a few records were made while others were broken.

South Africa Tyla made history by winning three awards at the ceremony – Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best Rnb Act.

After the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards, Wettbasis.com, has updated the list of all the records that were broken at this year’s ceremony.

Taylor Swift extended her record as the most awarded female artist at the EMAs (+4 awards, new total: 19 EMAs), she became the first artist to ever win the Best Video award four times and the first artist to win the Best Artist award 3 times.

Swift also tied the record of BTS and she is now only the second artist to ever become the most awarded at the EMAs for three consecutive years. 

Eminem extended his record as the most-awarded rapper in the MTV EMAs history with his 15th win in the Best Hip Hop category.

Additionally, Peso Pluma became the first Mexican artist to win in the Best Latin category while Tyla became the first South African artist ever to win the EMA in the Best R&B category,. 

At first, the broken overall records are listed, followed by the records divided by categories.

OVERALL RECORDS THAT WERE BROKEN: 

Taylor Swift extended her record as the most-awarded female artist in MTV EMAs history (Swift was nominated for 7 EMAs in 2024 and she won 4 in the following categories: Best Video, Best Artist, Best US Act, Best Live Act; her new total is 19 EMAs won, second only to Justin Bieber who has won 22 EMAs) 

Taylor Swift joined BTS and now they jointly hold the record for being the most awarded artist at the EMAs for the most consecutive years (3 years in a row) – Swift was the most awarded artist at the EMAs this year, last year and in 2022 while BTS achieved the same feat the three years before that (2019-2021)

Eminem extended his record as the most awarded rapper in the MTV EMAs history – his new total is 15 EMAs won, winning in 2024 in the Best Hip Hop category

BEST VIDEO

Taylor Swift (“Fortnight”) extended her record as the most awarded artist in the Best Video category after securing her 4th win in 2024 – she is the only artist that has won the award 3 and 4 times (“Fortnight”, “Anti-Hero”, “All Too Well: The Short Film” & “ME!”)

After becoming only the second artist ever to win Best Video at the EMAs for two consecutive years (following Justice) last year, Taylor Swift extended this record and became the first artist to ever win Best Video 3 years in a row after winning her third consecutive trophy for “Fortnight”

Taylor Swift broke her tie with Dave Meyers (3 wins) and became the director with the most wins in the Best Video category after winning her 4th trophy for “Fortnight” which was directed solely by Swift 

Taylor Swift also extended her record as the artist with the most self-directed videos winning Best Video – 3 of Swift’s Best Video wins are for self-directed videos (“Fortnight”, “Anti-Hero” &  “All Too Well: The Short Film”) and one win (“ME!”) is for a video co-directed by Swift).

BEST ARTIST 

Taylor Swift became the first artist to ever win the Best Artist category on three occasions; she also extended her record as the most awarded female artist in the Best Artist category as well as the record for the most consecutive wins in the category since a victory in 2024 was her third win in a row following wins in 2022 and 2023

BEST HIP HOP

Eminem extended his record as the most awarded artist in the Best Hip Hop category –  his win in 2024 was his 10th trophy in the category

BEST LATIN 

Peso Pluma became the first Mexican artist to win in the Best Latin category

BEST R&B

Tyla became the first South African artist ever to win the EMA in the Best R&B category

BES LIVE ACT

Taylor Swift tied the record of U2 and Ed Sheeran and became the most-awarded artist in the Best Live Act category (2 wins); Swift also became the first female artist to win two times in the Best Live Act category

BEST US ACT

Taylor Swift extended her record as the most awarded artist in the Best US Act category – she won in this category 3 times in the past (2015, 2019 & 2021), and a win in 2024 was her 4th

BEST COLLABORATION

Rosalía tied Karol G as the most awarded artist in the Best Collaboration category after winning her second trophy for “New Woman” (with Lisa) – Rosalía won the first time in this category in 2019 for “Con Altura” (with J Balvin and El Guincho)

BEST PUSH ACT

Le Sserafim became the first all-female group to win in the Best Push Act category
